LINUX is an operating system like window or apples Mac OS.
An operating system controls the execution of computer programs and with the help of the computers motherboards BIOS and drivers, it allows various hardware to interface with your computer like your keyboard, mouse, and printer.
There are 80+ different operating systems including, but not limited to:
Redhats Fedora, Debian Linux, BSD, AIX, Solaris, Windows, BEOS, and Mac OS 1-9.
The LINUX operating system is made up of 3 parts the Kernel, a shell, and the applications.
A Kernel is the base of every operating system. The smaller the kernel the faster it is, and normally the larger the kernel the more functionality it has. It’s best to find a happy medium.
A shell is a piece of software that provides an interface for users into the operating systems kernel.
An Application is a piece of software that is operated on a computer for which its sole purpose is to improve the computer users work.
